Homer in Roma

Ever since my humans visited Rome and told me all about my namesake, Omero, it has been an ambition of mine to visit this great city. Well, following our visits to Pisa and Siena a few weeks ago, I finally made it there. Here are some photos from our trip:

My first stop was St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. I had a good sniff around, but I couldn’t find the Pope anywhere!

Me and Missus in front of St. Peter’s Basilica.

And here we are with a couple of soldiers from the Swiss Guard. They were booti-ful. (But not as booti-ful as me!).

After our tour of the Vatican, we took a break to have a bite to eat.

Once refreshed, we headed off to explore the rest of Rome...

Here’s Grandma and me in front of the Trevi Fountain.

Grandma, Dad and yours truly at the Trevi Fountain.

Next we took a trip to the Pantheon in the centre of Rome.

Then we were off to the Spanish Steps. Here I am with Missus...

...and here I’m sitting with Dad.

Me and Grandma looking ‘cool’ as we overlook the city of Rome. (BTW, Grandma has left Italy now and gone back to home to England. I really miss her!).

We ended our sightseeing with a visit to the Colosseum...

It was magnificent!

The arch behind us is the Arch of Constantine.

Here’s me, Missus and Grandma getting our picture taken with a Roman soldier in front of the Colosseum.

Unfortunately, all of this exposure to ancient Rome gave Missus an idea...

...Tsk! She couldn’t resist dressing me up as a Roman Gladiator!

"My name is Homeus Maximus, loyal servant to Missus Caesar and definitely better looking than Russell Crowe!"

Hello Homer!! You have the most amazing adventures and go to the places that I have only dreamed about!! I am sure if the Pope knew that you were in town he would have gladly met you and given you a treat! :-))) I also think if all the Roman Gladiators had been Goldens, there would have been no fighting!!!

OMD! laughing out loud at the gladiator. yes you're waaaay more handsome!

I'm in Switzerland now finalizing on a house and applying for residency. then going back home to get things packed. no move date yet but soon. BUT... your mom will have to either email me or point me to a post that explains logistics of how she goes "sight seeing/tourism" with you since pups aren't usually allowed inside many areas like the Vatican etc. does someone stay outside with you while others go in and visit the inside? if you have a post on how you manage, point me to it! i'd love some ideas!

cheers!

Hi Homeus Maximus,
You are a pawsome gladiator! Mum loved your photos of Rome, as she was there twenty years ago for a holiday. She also thinks it is wonderful your family take you to see the sights.

Oh Homer - my human loved this post - it brought back such happy memories!! And I didn't realise that doggies allowed in Vatican City and all that - Italy really is such a dog-friendly country!

Your gladiator costume is FANTASTIC!!! Your Missus is SO CLEVER to be able to make things up like that!!

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
ps. Hsin-Yi says to say thank you to your Missus for her nice comment about human pups - it's nice to know that she is not alone and that other people understand how she feels!
