My Surgical Wounds are Healing Nicely

A couple of months ago, I had my Mast Cell Tumours (Gosh! I dread those words) removed. One was located on my shoulder blade and the other next to my paw pad.

This was how it looked after I came out from surgery.

The scar was ten centimetres long.

My poor little foot!

I am happy to say that my wounds are recovering nicely and there are no signs of cancer cells in the affected areas.

Here are some photos taken a couple of days ago.

Look at my shoulder now. You can hardly tell that I had an operation.

…I am very pleased and hope that I never have to go through that again. NEVER!

I Bring Good News

Here’s a quick post to let everyone know that I’m doing fine.

It’s been a month since I had my surgery. So, we went back to the vet a few days ago, he did some aspirates and told us that he couldn’t find any traces of cancer cells in the affected areas. Yay! My surgical wounds are healing booti-fully and there are no signs of the tumours growing back. My vet was very happy with his findings and we were told to go back in three weeks time for another check-up.

Again, with all of my heart, I want to thank all of you for your concern and your well-wishes. Your support was truly appreciated.

Post Surgery Report

It’s been two weeks since I visited my vet for the latest check-up on my Mast Cell Tumours. He took a few aspirates; discussed the variable options with my humans and surgery was decided.

Two lumps – one on my right shoulder and the other on my front left paw were removed. The surgery went smoothly without any complications.

At this moment, we can only hope that there aren’t any residual traces of Mast Cells lurking around. According to my vet, and various sources from the Internet, if there are cancer cells left behind, the tumours tend to grow back with a vengeance. So far, the signs look good. I am back on my chemo drugs for a month, after which I’ll have to go back to the vet for another check-up.

To make sure that my wounds were able to heal, my movements have been restricted since the surgery. My daily walkies have been cut short and I’m not allowed to use the stairs.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone again for all of your concern and well-wishes. I have not been given the all-clear yet so I hope you will keep me in your thoughts for a little while longer.

Sakura and My Upcoming Trip to the Vets

In my last post, I mentioned that I had a little fiend… I mean FRIEND (oops!) who has been staying with us for the past month.

Everybody, may I introduce you to my new friend, Sakura.

She is a Japanese Spitz and she just turned ONE a few days ago! (More about this later.)

Sakura is a very sweet and adorable little puppy. Her crazy antics always make us laugh. For instance…

On another note – I am scheduled to see my vet this coming Friday with a possibility of going into surgery to remove the tumours.

According to the humans, I will be sedated and the vet will then do an aspirate on my right paw to check for cancer cells. If no cancer cells are detected, they will proceed with the surgery to have the lump removed. Otherwise I am back to my chemo drugs again.

An Update On My Mast Cell Tumours

Woof! Woof!

As it’s been a while since I blogged, I thought I would give you an update on my health condition. You may remember that I have been diagnosed as having Mast Cell Tumours.

Following a number of consultations after my initial diagnosis, my humans decided to put me on Palladia. This is a chemo drug, specially formulated to treat animals, which is supposed to kill tumour cells and cut off the blood supply to the tumours.

There are two tumours on my body – one on my right shoulder blade and the other next to my front left paw pad. My humans and my vet hope that the Palladia will get rid of them.

I have now been taking my medication for the past three months. Unfortunately, I can’t say it’s been smooth sailing. There have been days when I have experienced side effects such as a decrease in appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and blood in my stools. Whenever I get such symptoms, my humans have to stop the medication and wait for my body to recover. Once my health has been restored, I am able to resume taking my chemo drugs.

I’ve attached a couple of photos of the nasty tumours. The Missus feels that they have not changed from the time before I started taking Palladia. My vet, on the other hand, believes that the one located next to my paw pad has improved.
