Pompeii

Whilst staying in Napoli for a few days, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to pay a visit to the nearby archaeological excavations at Pompeii. Here are some photos from our outing…

This is Dad trying to plan our route around the excavation site.

I couldn’t wait for Dad any longer and so decided to set-off on my own.

Of course, I had to stop for a breather every now and then.

Dad finally caught up with me and we started to explore the place together.

This statue is in the famous 'House of the Faun'.

Me and Dad in Pompeii’s Forum…

…and here we are inside the Amphitheatre.

Me and Missus…

…and the three of us together: Missus, Dad and Yours Truly!

The history of Pompeii is a tragic tale. The city was buried under volcanic ash during an eruption by Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The ruins still show the remnants of life during Roman times, as well as some stark reminders of the day of the eruption itself…

…there are many casts of the victims in the positions in which they perished.

Another victim of Vesuvius’ wrath.

There was even one of our four legged friends found within the ash.

This fellow didn’t seem too perturbed by the history though. He was content to just snooze the day away.

As usual, I made many friends during my sightseeing activities…

…like this little guy…

…and this booti-ful lady.

There were even people trying to get into my photo-shots like the cheeky bloke behind me and Dad here.

Following our trip around the fascinating sights of Pompeii, we all sat down for a well-earned meal.

Next time I’ll tell you about the town we stopped-off at during our journey back from Napoli to home in Lodi.

Ciao for now!

We loved seeing a bit of Pompeii.

Our Mom was there a long time ago and remembers sitting under a tree and imagining what it must have been like when the lava came pouring out of the volcano.

Did you see the "naughty" room????

Thanks for the tour. Mum was there back in 1991, but she can't remember seeing some of the things in your photos. It's great that you are allowed to take dogs around too.

I love to look at the travel photos. My pawrents had a wonderful trips in Europe 2 years ago in 17 days. They didn't have a lot of ventures like your family and especially when the could take me along.
Post ending with a sitting delicious meal, life is beautiful, isn't it?

I know I sound like a broken record but gosh - Italy is just SO dog-friendly! It's so wonderful that you're allowed to go into all these sights and attractions, Homer, with your humans!

And wow - you're an archeologist-doggie now, are you?! :-)
